I'm a sucker for cute collectibles lately. Maybe it's due to the rising cost of full-sized action figures. Maybe it's due to the fact that I will always be able to find display space for figures that are only slightly larger than an almond. Of course, it probably is mostly because I've been bitten by the blind-bag-bug like everyone else I know. These DC Universe Chibis were a surprise to me. I've have the Marvel Avengers Black Widow figure for a while now but I wasn't really a fan of that older Chibis style. Then recently I discovered two additional Marvel ladies (Storm and Invisible Woman) who are in a style much more to my liking. Luckily these DC figures are in the newer "dot-eye" style that I prefer. I think we'll definitely see a series two eventually. Catwoman is the most glaring female missing from the first wave. But I'm sure Batgirl, Harley, and Poison Ivy would be in the running too. Something I really liked about these specific blind bags is that there are three figures in each bag, which really limits the frustration of not getting the character you want. Let's check out Wonder Woman and Supergirl below!
Each blind bag has a long folded insert showing illustrations of the characters in Chibi style.
Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!
Here are all the comic book ladies so far. You can see how Black widow was done in the old style with too much eye detail and an unnecessary nose.
(makes them way less cute in my opinion)
Here they are with a few of the DC boys.
And here with some Squinkies and an Imaginext for size comparison.
Cheers!
Cute! Where did you find these? I'd like to get a Damian Robin and Batman if I can find them!
ReplyDeleteThe official website says that they're Target exclusives, but I found mine at Hot Topic. I'm about to post all my extra on ebay, but unfortunately I don't have Batman or Robin
Deletesorry but this are horrible! I like the minimates and super hero squad thou. Is there anything they wont try?
ReplyDeleteAgain, these are horrible but you like Penny?!? haha. I understand the reluctance to jump on board with these things. My first concession to cutesified abstracted figures like this was my Funko POP Batgirl... then Blammoids Batgirl.. Then Kubricks.. then Minimates.. then Mez-itz.. it gets very addicitive very fast. Once I broke the mold of sticking to "realistic" figures, there was no longer any hesitation. I love things like this and I hope they keep coming. New52 Batgirl Lego in 2014! Whoohoo!
