Harley Quinn is a doctor. Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, M.D. was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum where she counseled, and was seduced by, the Joker. This story is amazing. This origin is brilliant. It was this solid foundation that launched her into the powerhouse character she is today (Hello.. there's a HQ fashion line starting this fall at Hot Topic). Anyway, because of all these factors, I am fundamentally opposed to seeing her dressed up in a sexy nurse outfit. Not that nurses aren't fantastic. (My mother had an amazing career as an RN). But this portrayal is just inaccurate, insulting to her origin, and awkward. That said, this particular Funko POP representation of the Arkham Asylum video game design of Harley is actually pretty cute. Perhaps because the cuteness of the POPs naturally obscure the "sexy" tackiness. That's my two cents at least. This figure is a Hot Topic Exclusive Pre-release. I'm assuming the whole wave will be available everywhere at a later date (I can't wait to get that Poison Ivy!).
The only negative thing I have to say about this figure (aside from my rant above) is that she can not stand up on her own. I'm using a standard G.I.Joe stand in these pictures, but that peg isn't really a good fit for her foot hole. I have yet to find a well-suited stand.
Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!
Here she is with the Hot Topic Exclusive Harley w/ Mallet and the standard release (with the cork gun)
Cheers!
Hmm, odd - mine stand up just fine on her own.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that of all the representations of Harley, this one is my least favorite (ok, well maybe it's tied with the first New52 redesign.) This POP figure is the only Arkham Asylum Harley I have in my collection.
Oooo that's good to know. I'll try to grab a second one now because I don't want to deal with her falling over all the time. Did you see the updated nurse outfit for Arkham Origins? It's more or less the same but with collagen lips
