The New Adventures of He-Man was an interesting chapter in the He-Man mythos. Filmation had gone out of business, the 1980s had come to a close, but the He-Man brand still had a lot of potential. The production company Jetlag picked up the reigns and changed up everything. He-Man and Skeletor had left Eternia and began quarreling in space and on the far-away planet of Primus. The series was very interesting to me as a young viewer. The animation was much more dynamic, but conversely the storylines and (new) characters were much less interesting. The character Mara was the most prominent female in the series. In the beginning she was a plainclothed assistant to Master Sebrian (think Doc Brown meets Gandalf). But later on she donned her warrior garb as seen in this figure. Along with the Galactic Protector She-Ra and the upcoming Crita figure, I'm really excited to have a mini New Adventures collection on my shelf. Let's check out Mara below!
Mara comes with two accessories, a shield and a staff (with dual blade and mace ends).
But her real weapon is of course her long ponytail with a metal mace to act as a flail.
Here are some images of Mara from the cartoon.
One of the main reasons I love getting this new Mara figure is because it resurrects one of the many "coulda been" figures out there. I first saw this cancelled Mara prototype many years ago. There are a ton of cancelled female figures across many different properties that I mourn all the time. So it's nice to finally get one of the missing ladies (not discounting the Star Sisters).
Mara's hair is detachable at the gold cuffs along her braid. This enables you to make her hair shorter so the flair is hanging mid-back. I was afraid to pull mine too hard so I don't have a picture of the short braid.
Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!
Here she is with Galactic Protector She-Ra.
She-Ra wasn't in the New Adventures, but Mattel made a hypothetical figure as if she were.
Cheers!
Just ordered Mara. Not my favourite design, but I'm a completist. Her crotch looks masculine. I guess I'll have to judge in person when I get her...
ReplyDeleteI see what you're saying, but I really like her overall. Especially the magenta detailing on her boots, cuffs, and shield. The color combinations look really good in person. Now I just want a NA Teela in that pink and purple outfit!
DeleteI recently got this figure along with a few others since I started collecting MOTUC again.
ReplyDeleteMost of the figures I have got so far have been New Adventures characters.
I really like this figure of Mara. The colours are great and make her stand out next to the other New Adventures figures.
