Rock Candy - BATGIRL (BURNSIDE)!

DC Comics - Rock Candy - Series 01 - Batgirl (Burnside) - Vinyl Sugar/Funko 2016

Vinyl Sugar has a lot of interesting product lines in the Funko arsenal. Up until now, the only ones I have been buying are Dorbz, but the Vinyl Vixens were always very tempting to me, basically because the character lineup seems specifically tailored to me. All my favorite Bat-family characters in one female-centric collector line. However, the design of those figures is very off-putting to me. The scale and proportions reminded me of Bratz a little too much. Not to mention the eyes with their creepy sexy gazes (imo). I would always stop and look at these figures in stores but would walk away wishing they were smaller, had more proportionate heads, and looked cuter. I honestly never expected such a product to exist, but then a year later here we have Rock Candy, the smaller, cuter Vinyl Vixens. While this is still not my ideal collectible, I am really excited about this line. I'm especially impressed that the first wave has two distinct Batgirls. Let's check out the first official Burnside Batgirl product below!

One thing I want to say about these Rock Candy figures is that you can adjust the angle they stand slightly.  The stands have two foot pegs that fit really snuggly into the figure. You'll notice that some of these photos are rotated to make her stand more upright (If anchored down securely on the stand she'd look like the Tower of Pisa). After this photoshoot I realized how easy it was to just loosen her left foot a little bit and level her off.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here she is with the Classic Batgirl also released in Series 01.

Cheers!

  1. She is gorgeous. Best costume redesign in the past decade. Well, next to Spider Gwen.

    1. I completely agree. You actually bring up a theory I always have about Spider-girl vs Batgirl. Their popularity happens in tandem. The Mayday Parker Spider-girl became a hot character at the same time Cassandra Cain Batgirl did (they even shared a Wizard cover back in the day), Then the Anya Corazon Spider-Girl finally got a solo series just about the same time that Steph Brown Batgirl came out. Now Burnside Batgirl and Spider-Gwen. I love both the Spider-ladies and Bat-ladies so I'm super glad they keep up with each other like this.

  2. I've purchased every Vinyl Vixen so far, and all of the Rock Candy figures (with the exception of the BvS Wonder Woman, which I did not pre-order due to not seeing the movie) are shipping out to be this coming week in my BBTS pile o' loot (which has piled up long enough). Though I left the VV's in their boxes, it is my understanding that due to the size and weight of the heads, they tend to fall over when on display. Another reason to leave them packaged, I guess. However, I've been waiting since last year's announcement for the RC figures to show up, and I'll be equally excited to get them in hand.

    1. I think you'll be impressed with the Rock Candy figures. Did you see the TV Supergirl figure that was a subscription exclusive? I think it was Legion of Collectors.. the month with the TV theme. Also, it's been heavily rumored that a rock candy Harley will be in the Suicide Squad themed box. I'm not getting the Supergirls or Wonder Women yet, but I might eventually.

    2. I saw them at Target the other day (but had already had them sitting in my POL), and they look wonderful. I also love that retails like Target are carrying them, as it can be quite difficult to find collectibles like this when your local comic book store doesn't carry them. These are a sort of weird in-between, as most comic book stores won't carry them, and before Rock Candy, these weren't the sort of items big box retails would stock either.

Now if I could just find the Imaginext Batgirl of Burnside...
