Justice League Basic Series - WONDER WOMAN!

Justice League (Movie) - Basic Series 01 - Wonder Woman - Mattel 2017

I honestly wasn't sure if I would be picking up any Justice League movie figures this year. Thankfully, the Wonder Woman costume appears to be identical to her look in the solo movie from earlier this year, and the main Multiverse figure seems to be a re-release of the previous TRU exclusive. Frankly, I would have been very annoyed if there would have been some minor variation to hunt down. Then I saw the talking Justice League figures and was equally uninterested. I just have no need for gimmicks like that. What I didn't realize (but should have) is that there would be a "Basic Series" of figures in a smaller scale and pricepoint. And to my surprise this figure turned out to be gorgeous. The sculpt and articulation is impressive and it has me wishing for a small Mera to go with that upcoming Multiverse figure. Who knows what extras they will sneak in between now and November 17th. My hopes are high that this is just a small example of overall increased quality at Mattel like the last few Multiverse waves have shown.

Let's check out the basic series Wonder Woman below!

Wonder Woman has pretty impressive articulation. Compared to previous "Basic" series figures, she now has added swivel-and-hinge wrists and shoulders, as well as a waist swivel. The only thing keeping this figure from being perfect is some kind of ankle cut and something more than t-crotch hip joints. It's an awesome figure for this price point overall.

Wonder Woman comes with the exact same accessories that the BvS Basic Series Wonder Woman did.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here she is with the 2017 Wonder Woman Movie TRU Exclusive Multiverse figure
(which is basically identical to the Multiverse Justice League Figure).

And here she is next to the BvS Basic Series Wonder Woman. The head is totally new, but the rest of the body is a retool; her hips and torso are slightly slimmer and she has added wrist, shoulder, and waist articualtion.

Cheers!

  1. Nice. I actually like the look of this WW figure, a bit more in proportion compared to the BvS figure, although the feet do look a bit large. Probably due to being painted one solid color, thinking that could be remedied with some paints to differentiate the details of her boots. Might have to grab one and see what I think for myself.

  2. This isn't a 3 3/4 figure is it?

    1. Nope, Mattel seems to have phased out 3.75 figures at the moment. It's sad because I'm a fan of that scale.

    2. Yeah sorry I'm so behind in my replies. This figure measures exactly 6" tall. I love 3.75" scale, but for some reason the sculpts and articulation in that size haven't improved like the larger scales have (yet the prices have been increasing at the same rate). I've been extremely unimpressed with GIJoe and Star Wars 3.75 figures lately.

  3. While Hasbro produced superior "collector" figures, Mattel really excels at the kid-friendly lines. The sculpt and articulation of this figure would have blown me away as a kid!

    1. You're so right. I always look for kid-line Marvel figures and they are almost always disappointing. The best have been the animated guardians Nebula and Gamora, but they honestly pale in comparison to this Diana figure.

  4. I myself can't wait for the upcoming Medicom MAFEX DC Comics Wonder Woman figure (November): http://experiencethewonder.com/exhibit/action-figures/medicom-mafex-dc-comics-wonder-woman-movie-action-figure-gal-gadot-as-wonder-woman-no-048/.. Mafex put out a Batman vs. Superman version last year, wich was was ok, sadly the face turned out quite bad compared to the prototype. I hope they heard the complaints and nail this one! The likeness and colors in these promotional shots are outstanding imo!

    1. I'm always tempted by high end figures but I rarely take the plunge. I have a handful of Sentai figures from SHF and some anime Figmas, but the only Mafex I own is the DKR Catwoman (which I haven't opened yet). And I always find myself comparing the Mafex and SHF Suicider Squad Harleys in stores but I can't make up my mind. This new Wonder Woman looks great, but I know I will never get around to buying her. Let me know if she meets your expectations when you get her in hand :)

  5. Was actually surprised by how nice this WW figure looked compared the last basic release. Much more 'fiercer' look to her and nicer hair sculpt too!

    1. Yes both the Multiers and Basic lines are vastly superior to the BvS stuff. I'm going to blow a gasket when the Gotham City Sirens merch is revealed if this keeps up!
