Today was a great day for a toy hunt. August 1st was the street date for all the Thor Ragnarok toys as well as all the Justice League merchandise. It didn't hurt that I happened to be home sick so was able to be at the stores as they opened. (And it's nearly impossible to find a silver lining in having a cold in Summer). So I was home by noon with my bounty (I had to go to 3 TRUs and two Targets to get everything I wanted) but then I was too exhausted and sick to photograph them until late this evening. Under normal circumstances I would have just waited, but I was too impatient and wanted to free this beauty from her box. Marvel Legends has just been making perfect action figures recently. Maybe I'm foggy from meds, but I have no criticisms of this figure whatsoever. When I first saw the imagery of Cate Blanchett as Hela I was not impressed (I thought it looked like the movie Rita Repulsa), but over the months it has really grown on me and now I can't wait to see her on the screen in November. Let's check out Hela below!
I can't get over this Cate Blanchett face. This knocks the Toy Biz Galadriel out of the water.
(Don't judge those old photos in that link too harshly. It was four years, two cameras, and a world of experience ago.)
Hela comes with a removable cape, a sword, and both helmeted and unhelmeted head.
There's something I especially love about how the cape slopes up her neck.
Hela comes with The Hulk Build-a-Figure Right Arm and Battle Axe.
Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!
Here she is with the 2015 SDCC Exclusive Comic-Style Hela.
I'm impressed that they didn't try to re-use the headdress sculpt at all. Especially considering that it appears the movie headdress changes shape.
And here she is with the Jane Foster Thor (Review coming next!)
Cheers!
Cool figure. The costume and head dress version looks outstanding.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm super impressed by the movie design overall. I think Valkyrie looks blah. But somehow they made an out landing comic costume look fantastic on Hela.
DeleteI picked her up at Target yesterday, she's probably one of my favorite ML figures right now
ReplyDeleteI just picked up a second one as well (at Gamestop) because I wanted to display both heads :)
DeleteYes!!! Totally in love with that Cate Blanchett sculpt! so so good!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! It should be noted that some Blanchett heads have better forehead veins than others I've noticed. Mine has medium-to-light veinage. The darker they are, the more sinister she looks.
DeleteI've been digging Hela so far, both in design and personality. This figure looks pretty damn good to me.
ReplyDeleteI actually hardly ever watch trailers so I have no idea how Cate is performing as this character. But she's one of those "can do no wrong" actors for me so I'm sure she'll be amazing.
DeleteI am thinking that Hela may rival vol 2 Gamora as the best female Marvel Lengend.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that I just took her to my toy room last night after getting in trouble for having her on the coffee table all week so I could play with her every day pretty much means I agree with you haha.
DeleteOne of the two Hela figures I ordered arrived today, and I have to agree, really outstanding job done on this one. Out of all the Thor themed figures on slate for this year Hela was the one I most anticipated, followed by Sif and Loki from the A-Force set, and she did not disappoint. I was expecting her to be a solid 6" but was pleasantly surprised she stands as tall as last year's Book of the Vishanti Hela.
ReplyDeleteI agree and I was also surprised that they didn't re-use any of the comic Hela's parts. When they announced Hela and Enchantress back at Toy Fair, I thought for sure we'd just be getting repaints of the comic figures. Super impressed with this one.
