MOTU Revelation - ANDRA!

Masterverse Series 3 - Masters of the Universe Revelation - Andra - Mattel 2021

Masters of the Universe Revelation was a fantastic shot of energy into the MOTU franchise. I wasn't the biggest fan of the 200x cartoon or Jetlag, so outside of comics (which have been really good since 2002), I was relying on the vintage animation for my He-Man lore. But Revelation provided long-awaited character development that I wasn't expecting (but really happy about). One of my favorite "new" characters, is Andra. In the 1986 MOTU series from Marvel's Star Comics imprint, Andra was a blonde caucasian lieutenant and friend of Teela. She appears in one main story, and had two small cameos after. I just read the issues and she maybe appears in a dozen panels and mostly acts as a well-meaning impediment to the heroes. In short, she was a prime candidate for a modern makeover. She was a pretty major character in the show, although not to the level that the rumormill predicted. (And the early announcement of this toy only fueled speculation). Let's check out this wonderful toy below!

Andra comes with a alternate gasmask head, three pairs of hands, and a blast effect for her gauntlet gun.

She also comes with a soft goods hooded cloak. This has an interesting design because the neck is composed of an extended scarf that can wrap around her torso and cinch the bulky cloth in the areas where it needs to be. The material also has a clingy staticky feeling, which is a good thing because it adds to the form-fitting potential.

If anyone is watching the Book of Boba Fett, check out the similarities between the Pike army's  gasmasks. Looking at a screenshot like this, the differences are plentiful. But while watching the show, the Pikes definitely have the same vibe as Teela's mercenaries.

And here are some of the few panels of Andra from the 1986 Star Comics series.

And while we're on a comic nostalgia kick, check out red-skinned Catra and hooded Evil-Lyn.

If you're curious to see what Teela looks like with the gasmask head on.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

I picked up two Andras to display both versions.

Add Teela for a band of Stinkor mercenaries.

And here are the three Revelation ladies so far: Teela, Andra, and Evil-Lyn.

Cheers!

  1. Besides being just a really good figure on her own, I'm excited to actually get a new MOTU character in action figure form. With most characters being done over and over it's really fun to have someone new in the line.

    1. I agree. After MOTUC it's pretty rare to have a vintage character that hasn't been merchandised in one way or another.
