Coco is an anthropomorphic Bandicoot and the younger sister of the primary character, Crash, in the Crash Bandicoot franchise. She first appeared in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back in 1997 but didn't become a playable character until 1998's Crash Bandicoot: Warped. At present, she's appeared in 18 games, plus comics and animation. But I'll admit that I'm mostly aware of her because of two super scarce action figures she had in 1998's ReSaurus line. I've always been tempted by these old figures, but the high price, limited articulation, and "alarmed" facial expression kept me away. Not surprisingly, this new figure has caused a noticeable dip in eBay prices for the vintage figure, but I'm happy with this Headstart figure for now. Headstart is mostly known for their Ice Age figures and the super-sized Ooshies. I'm excited to see them dip into the traditional action figure market, especially with such an iconic license. I can't wait to see more. Let's checkout Coco Bandicoot below!
Coco has had a long career and many redesigns. Luckily most of them are very similar. So this design (from the recent Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time) seems fairly universal.
I read that Coco was essentially a replacement character for the original female in the Crash Bandicoot series, Tawna.
Tawna was deemed too sexy and stereotyped so was replaced by the cute, smart, sister character, Coco.
Interestingly, Tawna is in this recent game with a significant redesign. She now has a sporty vibe and has a
blue-streaked mohawk. I think she looks cool and I hope she gets a toy.
Coco comes with the Kapuna-Wa Quantum Mask (and a stand for the mask). There are four masks in the game and they provide different power-ups to Crash and Coco. Kapuna-Wa has time power which allows them to slow time and more easily play against fast obstacles or enemies. Kapuna-Wa is the only female mask and has a grandmotherly appearance and voice.
Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!
Here is Coco with two other iconic video game ladies: Amy Rose and Princess Peach.
Cheers!
