Invincible was one of the small handful of superhero comics that I credit with re-introducing me to the genre in the early 2000s. Like a lot of people, the 90's "extreme" comics turned me off. I potentially would have ditched comics all-together, but I discovered manga and indie imprints that kept me nerdy. Then in short succession in the early 2000s, I started reading Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman, Coipel, Abnett, and Lanning's Legion of Superheroes work, and Invincible from Image Comics. I was so happy that superhero books were suddenly enjoyable again. Invincible was refreshing. The characters were likeable, the costumes were colorful, and the storylines were simple (yet mature). I was hooked from the very start. For a while, Atom Eve was the token female in the comics. I remember loving her character, but hating the pink outfit with her red hair. Of course now I love it and would throw a fit at any costume change. The Invincible Amazon series premiered in 2021 and is an amazing translation of the comic.
I can honestly say it is the best translation of comic to television I've ever seen. The art style, the characterization, and the tone is practically perfect. The only shocking thing was how fast the story progressed. They covered years of storyline in only eight episodes. I guess no show lasts forever though so it's understandable to want to cover as much ground as possible. Diamond Select's toy line is a great celebration of both the comic and cartoon. Let's check out Atom Eve below.
I find that pink is a very nuanced color that can look very different depending on the lighting.
I intentionally kept a few when the pink looks darker.
The likeness of this figure to the comic and cartoon isn't perfect, but I think she looks good.
It should be noted that her left eye is prone to being printed off center giving her and exaggerated lazy eye appearance. This one I have isn't so bad, but some look distracting.
Eve comes with 4 sets of hands, 2 hands with attached impact effects, two extra impact effects (I assume for her feet), a flight stand, and a small unarticulated figure of Shrinking Rae.
Note that the solicit images for Atom Eve have a completely different hairstyle (and possibly an entirely different head). I prefer the production version that we got.
Here is Shrinking Rae.
Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!
Here are all my Atom Eves together. From Left to Right: Heroclix, Diamond Select, McFarlane Toys, DST Femme Fatales statue, and DST Minimate.
Here are the Invincible figures in this line so far: Omni-Man, Invincible, Atom Eve, and Robot. They have also shown Dupli-Kate, Allen, and a Monster Girl 2-Pack. I love this line.
Cheers!
