Saurozoic Warriors - PAVA PERGIA!

Saurozoic Warriors - Pava Pergia (Ninja Archaeopteryx) - Boss Fight Studio 2024

The late 80s and the majority of the 90s were filled with cartoon properties featuring anthropomorphic characters. Street Sharks, Biker Mice from Mars, Swat Kats, Extreme Dinosaurs, Bucky O'Hare, Barnyard Commandos, Moo Mesa, Battletoads, etc dominated the toy aisles and television sets (and I'm not even mentioning the big marquee properties - TMNT, Thundercats, etc). But a sad thing for me was that this genre rarely featured any (non-human) female characters. And if they did, they almost never got a toy. My favorite of these properties was DinoSaucers (1987) which had several great female characters in the animation. Unfortunately the Galoob toyline was never released (Glasslite in Brazil later purchased the unused Galoob molds and released 5 characters), but none of the ladies were ever in consideration for plastic. This new Saurozoic Warriors line is a sort of love letter to this era, and specifically to DinoSaucers. The characters are all-new, but there is an occasional nod to the past properties.

This Pava Pergia, the Ninja Archaeopteryx, figure is the first female in the Saurozoic Warriors line and seems like a conceptual nod to Teryx, the female Archaeopteryx on the DinoSaucers team. There are zero visual similarities between them beyond the fact that they are both anthropomorphized female archaeopteryx, but I was still very excited to see Pava in the lineup. Hopefully she is not the last. Let's check out Pava Pergia below!

Pava Pergia comes with two Tech Swords, two Scabbards for those swords (that can be connected in an X on her back with their pegs), a small handgun, a torso harness (with sculpted throwing stars and a holster for her gun), and a neck scarf - possibly a gaiter (but sculpted in a crumpled-down position).

Her feather plumage is interesting. It is a solid piece of plastic that visually appears like a waistcoat. It fits into a slot in her (soft rubbery plastic) pelvis piece and has a sharp upward-curving peg. If the peg just tucks into the rubbery waistband of her pelvis piece, then the feathers can drape along the ground and provide standing support (which I prefer). But if that peg is tabbed into the torso cavity (which I believe is the intent), then her feathers are raised up and off the ground and make her a bit unstable while visually looking like they are more dynamic and windblown.

Pava has all the articulation you would expect from a Boss Fight Studio product. All the typical points have hinge and swivel joints. But I was also very happy to see that her jaw is articulated with a sculpted interior mouth.

"Launching from a rocky crag or treetop, there are few who equal Pava when it comes to fast attack, scouting or covert surveillance. She uses thermal currents to soar effortlessly for long distances and has developed a ‘sixth sense’ which attunes her to the movement of the air. She can feel every breath of wind and even find other Saurians by the air they displace when they move. This makes it almost impossible to catch her unawares and allows her to fight even in pitch darkness."

I can't help but draw parallels to the other anthropomorphized Archaeopteryx in cartoon culture, Teryx from Dinosaucers.

Time for a Comparison Pic!

Cheers!
