There have been several attempts to introduce a female turtle to the TMNT universe over the years, but they never seem to last. Jennika is one of the most recent females in a half-shell and she has impressively been going strong for five years in the IDW comics (with two solo series and now two action figures). I even saw her graphic novel in Target last month, and their book department is (sadly) getting smaller and more selective each year. Jennika was introduced as a human foot clan assassin who was (four years later) injured and given a blood transfusion from Leonardo, triggering her mutation. I've always liked her design and the use of yellow as her signature color. In my mind, there has been a race to see which toy company would merchandize her first: Playmates, Loyal Subjects, or NECA. But my money was always on Loyal Subjects. Their work on the IDW versions of the other Turtles has been great, and Jennika is no exception. Let's check out her standard action figure and her SDCC redeco below!
Here are both Jennika figures and all their accessories.
The SDCC Battle Ready figure is on the Left and the standard release is on the Right.
The sculpts and contents are identical, but their coloring is quite different.
The blue slashing effects, cloaks, belts, scabbards, and silver parts of the accessories are identical between the two.
SDCC BATTLE READY | STANDARD EDITION
Black Clothing | Gray Clothing
Darker Green Skin | Paler Green Skin
Darker Yellow Mask and Sword Handle | Lighter Yellow Mask and Sword Handle
Dark Gray/Tan Shin and Forearm Wraps | Light Gray Shin and Forearm Wraps
Painted Neck Post | Unpainted Neck Post
(the head sits low enough on the neck post that whether the post is painted or not is inconsequential)
The Battle Ready version looks like she has an orange mask/bandana in these photos, but in person it's more of a deep mustard color. Very distinctly yellow, and not orange.
These figures can be assembled in many different configurations: Head with mask up or head with mask down; Cape on or cape off; Mask tails flowing dynamically or draped down; Hands with claws or not. For my own sanity, I chose two configurations that I felt showed the most diversity and stuck with them.
Jennika's knee joints are a little nuts. When her leg is bent, there is a large thin disc exposed.
Time for some Comparison Pics!
Cheers!
