Every few years, DC revamps their effort to merchandise the collective "DC Girls" theme. The first notable time was 2012's Super Best Friends Forever animated shorts. But the first significant girl-centric campaign came with the launch of DC Super Hero Girls in 2016. There were action figures, dolls, Legos, cartoons, comics, etc. To me, this was a genius move for DC/WB to mimic the success of Disney Princesses. And it was successful.. until it faded away (as all kid-focused properties do), but was rebooted in 2019 with new designs. There is also a current line of DC Girls Action Dolls and miniatures from Jakks Pacific following the same trend. But his newest Imaginext line is still a bit of a mystery. The characters are stylized and the playsets have had a unique matching color palette. There are animated toy shorts on YouTube, but whether or not it is tied something bigger (or just a self-contained Imaginext theme) has yet to be seen. In any case, I'm all-in. Let's check out Wonder Woman below!
Wonder Woman comes with her lasso accessory that we've seen released several times before, but this is the first time it's been brown instead of an attempt to make it gold or metallic.
Note the shoulder articulation in this new DC Girls line is limited to swivel joints. All previous Imaginext figures have had hinge-and-swivel shoulders that allowed the arms to be raised outward to the side.
Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!
Here is Wonder Woman with the recent Wonder Woman in the traditional Imaginext style.
And here are all the new Imaginext figures in this as-of-yet un-named big-headed female sub-line.
From Left to Right: Supergirl, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Bumblebee, and Wonder Woman.
Here are all my Wonder Woman Imaginext figures.
From Left to Right: Rivals Pack (2024), Wonder Woman & Cheetah (2018), Wonder Woman & Warrior Suit (2017), Superman & Wonder Woman (2012), Super Friends Heroes 3-Pack (2024), Wonder Woman Super Heroes & Super Villains (2018), DC Super Friends Blind Bag Series 4 (2018), Wonder Woman & Cheetah WW1984 (2019), and Wonder Woman & Invisible Jet (2013).
From 2015-2018 there was a Teen Titans Go! series of Imaginext figures. They used a very similar design as this new 2024 DC Girls line. Here is Wonder Woman (2024) with Starfire (2017) and Ravager (2018). Note the Titans line had fully-articulated shoulders and slightly larger heads.
And just for reference, here are all five ladies of the 2015-2018 Teen Titans Go! line together:
Raven, Ravager, Starfire, Terra, and Jinx.
Cheers!
